The Traditional Indian Art of Storytelling: Entertainment before media

 

           When there were no big screens or Media there existed communities and tribes who wandered around narrating stories blending in the visual and performing arts. From narrating the epics to spreading social awareness. 

     India is home to several traditional arts and crafts. A few decades ago when there were no media sources to entertain people there existed a beautiful blend of visual arts. Painting, music, dance and melody of local instruments clubbed together narrating stories and spreading awareness and entertaining people. This was done through the medium of scroll paintings along with the folk songs and dances combined together. Different states have different art forms with a slight difference in their painting style or way of narrating stories.
