The traditional art of pattachitra Patachitra literally means cloth based scroll painting where ‘pata’ derieved from a Sanskrit means cloth and chitra means painting. The artists painting these patachitras are known as ‘patuas’ and the speciality of the patuas and this art is that they not only paint but also sing along to narrate the stories painted these songs are known as ‘patergaan’. Painted using the natural colours on canvas with the ancient techniques this art form lost its importance and demand with the emergence of electronic media.
